With a pretty sharp fencing performance (only losing in the final) and both in feeling and result a great OCR (posting the fastest time of the finalists), I started the final strong. My swimming wasn’t the best again, but I still entered the laser run with a 12-second lead. For two laps I was in front, but my shooting wasn’t as accurate as usual, so in the third lap my Ukrainian rival, Yuriy Kovalchuk, took the lead.
In the fourth lap, I worked together with another Ukrainian athlete, and after the last shooting series I managed to leave the range in second place and start the final running lap. The always strong-running Frenchman, Mourcia, was chasing me closely, but with clenched teeth I managed to fend off his attack, and in the end I crossed the finish line in second place with a convincing gap—overjoyed. A barrier was broken, a dream came true: I won an individual medal at the Senior European Championships.
I want to thank everyone who has stood by me so far and who will continue to accompany me on my journey. I have learned so much from you, I owe you a lot, and I hope you also feel that this beautiful silver medal is yours as well. I will do my best to thank each of you personally, but I am sure you already know how deeply grateful I am to all of you.
The work doesn’t stop—there is still room for improvement in every discipline, but I can already feel that we are on the right path. The next competition will be the World Championships in about a month. Please cheer for me then too!
Onward! 🇭🇺
